Athletic Program Celebration Night
By Timothy Curry, Clarion Staff
As Kennedy nears its 50th anniversary, the athletic department is holding an open house on Friday, May 20 at 6:00 pm in the school auditorium. The open invitation celebration includes several major announcements including a new school contract with Nike and reboot of Kennedy logo.
This celebration night will be a chance to highlight the many successes the athletic program has had and the contributions it has received over the years. Between 300 to 400 people are expected to attend the event. Attendees will include past and present students, staff members, parents, and members of the area’s local business community.
Festivities will be held in front of the auditorium where the band and cheerleaders will perform. Outside of the auditorium, tables will be set up with information on the various athletic teams’ events and fundraising opportunities.
A presentation will be made inside the auditorium showcasing a history of athletics at Kennedy, the current state of athletics, the vision for the future of JFK’s athletic program, opportunities for getting involved, and financial needs. Food trucks and prize giveaways will also be held. Vice Principal Mr. Yung is organizing this athletic celebration night.
Kennedy signed a five-year contract with Nike to supply uniforms and sports equipment, although some existing sports equipment will be continued to be used by our sports teams. This new contract is exclusive to select schools that have opted to use only Nike brand gear for uniforms and such.
There will also be a new logo unveiled at this event that will remain consistent with the current look but provide a new font. You may have noticed that many different K’s have been used over the years. This new mascot logo with an actual cougar and not some similar-looking large cat.
