Just as the holiday break was about to begin for most Kennedy students, all JFK Clarion staff members were given a photo challenge to capture 30 different images over the holidays. On Dec 22, Clarion advisor Mr. Hanzlik provided 30 categories for students to photograph on their phones or digital cameras. Here’s what they returned with after the break. The winners in each category are included here.
1-SELF PORTRAIT by Karissa Jones. “My colorful blanket and favorite place to set around and do nothing.”
2-WHAT YOU WORE by Jianna Beasley. “Just my favorite outfit, morph suit, sweat pants, and clout.”
3-CLOUDS by Karissa Jones. “The clouds were taking over the sky on a bright morning before school.”
4-SOMETHING GREEN by Brandan Wong. “I’m not used to seeing my childhood’s favorite company using their logo without the famous gold”
5-AFTER DARK-Sarif Morningstar. “I took this photo on in front of my apartment. The street was dimly lit but I adjusted my camera setting to be able to detect it more clearly. The photo really draws out the atmosphere of my neighborhood.”
6-OBSESSION-Desiree Leong. “6-All of my fanart merchandise that I bought from SacAnime, mostly from the show, Miraculous Ladybug.”
7-CHANGES TO COME in 2018 by Christopher Wong. “Though a clean, organized room tops my New Year’s resolution list every year, the results make my parents yearn for more. Hopefully, this year I can contain my quirks.”
8-HIDDEN by Saeri Plagmann. “Folding herself into a burrito, Jade, the ferret sleeps in a handmade cardboard house in the middle of the living room. As an animal that sleeps an average of 18 hours a day, sleep was necessary, regardless of location.”
9-SOMEONE I LOVE- Sarif Morningstar. “This photo are among some of my first photos with a DSLR. I took this photo during my brother birthday. I love him and I was glad that I was able to capture this moment.”
10-CHILDHOOD MEMORY by Adrianna Iorio “In Disneyland, the famous ferris wheel “Mickey’s Fun Wheel” spins as children impatiently wait to board. While waiting, I recall my childhood fear of heights.”
11-SOMETHING GOLD by Makayla Smith “As I explored San Francisco, I spotted a random man spray painted gold. I captured him dancing.”
12-SUNSET by Karissa Jones “An amazing view of the LA sky before the sun goes dark and Disney lights take over the night.”
13-CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT-Desiree Leong “My bible is really important to me and it helps me to constantly deepen my faith, so I try to read it every day. “
14-EYES- Cynthia Dominguez. “My friend got a new kitten and our group of friends became more fond of the cat than my friend. Photo shoots with the kitten are not uncommon and the photo is one of many.”
15-SILHOUTTE by Makayla Smith “At Ellsworth C Zacharias Park with my brother Travelle. Capturing him in silhoutte while the sun was setting.
16-A GOOD HABIT by Christopher Wong. “When you’re staying up late finishing projects such as a newspaper photo challenge, your immune system becomes weaker. Washing hands becomes more important to fend off illnesses such as the flu.”
17-SOUND by Adrianna Iorio “The jazz band in New Orleans Square plays a beautiful tune at Disneyland.”

22-INSPIRATIONAL by Sophia O’Neal. “Whenever I look at this hanging on the wall in our home, it inspires me.”
23-PATTERN by Sarif Morningstar. “These books have been in my room for years. The way the rings of the notebook line up like pattern, I really liked it.”
24-ANIMAL by Timmy Curry “Dixie the Christmas Elf.”
25-CARD by Sarif Morningstar. “These are my theory11 cards. I really like the crimson red so I decide to contrast it with a green background. The colors were complementary and make the card really stand out.”
