Seniors excited to attend in-person graduation after a year of distance learning

By Samantha Hoyer, Clarion Staff Writer

As we reach the end of this exceptionally hectic year, seniors are looking forward to end-of-year events. For a large part of the school year many of us weren’t even sure if we would be able to attend an in-person graduation. But, as the situation with COVID-19 has improved in the last few months we are lucky enough to celebrate this occasion as a class.

As excited senior Karla Miranda puts it, “I feel so glad that we are able to be together and finish our high school experience. After the amount of struggles many of us have gone through this year, it feels like we finally have something to look forward to.”

Many seniors can’t wait for this opportunity to see our peers in real life as we take such a big step to our futures together. Following a year filled with so many changes and a lack of normalcy, we as a community are so relieved that we are able to have one last chance to commemorate the last 4 years as a class.

In-person graduation is set to take place on June 14, 2021 from 11:00am-12:30pm at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento. The school advises graduates to to arrive at 9:00am and enter at the Right Field Gate Entrance. Guests will enter at the Main Gate Entrance and the gates will open at 10:00 am, according to the John F. Kennedy High School website. This link contains vital information, including a map of the venue.

Madeline Woodard, a representative of student government, says, “It is very important that students and parents review the guidelines prior to attending graduation to make sure they will be able to stand with the rest of the seniors.”

So, make sure you review the guidelines and receive your tickets prior to showing up at the venue. But, for those who won’t be able to make it to the in-person ceremony, the event will also be livestreamed. For any additional information, please reference the JFK graduation fact sheet.

We hope that graduating seniors will think fondly of their high school experience, and as part of the Kennedy community we wish all seniors good luck in their future endeavors. Go Cougars!
