I’m back again with another fashion related article but this time to give all the baddies the perfect costume inspiration for Halloween!!
I have LOTS and LOTS (and LOTS) of personalized looks in store for you and your people to express your creativity, personality, and wit through costume this spooky season.
Rather you’re going to a glamorous Halloween party or simply trick-or-treating with your friends, I can assure you that at least one of the following outfit ideas will allow you to feel beautiful and so festively YOU doing so this Halloweekend!
Now, I’ve also assumed many of the basic excuses for NOT being fun and dressing up as your boring self on Halloween. To avoid being LAME, I’ve found specific looks and solutions suited to these problems so you have no excuse to not have fun now.
Don’t have enough time to spend on finding a cutesy costume this year? Or money?
WORRY NOT, GIRL- I’ve got some super simple, super cheap last minute costumes just for you.
First and foremost, I’m sure you’ve seen this look somewhere on social media lately as it seems to be blowing up; animal-inspired makeup looks !!
Most specifically though, my favorites that I’ve seen are the deer, leopard, and panther -- but I have certainly seen a whole zoo of other animals on my feed- all beautifully personal and trendy. These all require the basic makeup products you or someone in your house probably owns already- so no need to spend any money. Most use some sort of eyeliner or lip liner- typically brown and black to create very subtle animal designs around the face. For clothing, literally all you have to do is wear the same color or pattern as your desired animal (or don’t I don’t care). A cute little additional touch to add to this look could also be some little animal ears so people can’t mistake you for a LAME NON-HALLOWEEN-BELIEVER and ultimately just top off the entire look.
These simple makeup looks are so cute, cheap, and easy so I can definitely see WHY they’re trending. This may be a little bit of a basic option though since I expect a lot of people have this same idea this year- that’s nothing bad you just might find yourself in a jungle of other cheetah baddies on Halloween this year.
Next up, for all my hello kitty girlies, Sanrio inspired makeup looks !!
I know this idea might sound scary as you're envisioning it in your head right now as something resembling a kawaii art the clown but I promise if you choose the right character and put your heart into it, it WILL come out fire- and you don’t even have to wear a specific outfit to match. Honestly, the safest option for this is hello kitty because she requires the least amount of makeup, just a little black eyeliner to draw the whiskers, some yellow eyeshadow on the nose, and a red lip to tie the whole look together (even though she doesn’t really have lips or a mouth). I’d suggest also wearing a red bow so people can really tell who you are and this little addition can also be very cheap.
Finally, a very basic and easy look using clothes and makeup you or someone you know/live with probably already owns; a scarecrow !!
This look solely requires some assortment of denim and flannel topped with a straw hat or witch hat or just any hat you think suits the look best… or no hat I don’t know go crazy. Personally, I feel overalls would slay the most over a nice and warm red flannel with some cute little cowboy boots. A pair of jeans with a flannel over a white shirt would also be cute too. Again, many variations to this denim and flannel farmer-ish combination. For the makeup, all that is required to make yourself a scarecrow is a good black eyeliner or lip liner to draw the stitches around your mouth and a little bit of orange eyeshadow for the nose. I believe a brownish-orange eyeshadow look to suit this best as well.
Scared to dress up alone? Wanna dress up with your bestie or partner but can’t find any good, original inspiration?
As a disclaimer, any of these looks could easily double as solo costumes if you and your man break up the week before Halloween or you find out your best friend was hooking up with your man right before Halloween (you know the basics) and it could come out just as amazing.
My personal favorite, Mario and Luigi !!!!
OR Mario and Peach OR Luigi and Daisy OR Peach and Daisy !! All these characters and their color combinations surprisingly all go really well together no matter which of the two you choose to be and they are not necessarily gender-specific so you don’t HAVE TO dress up as a character just because you’re a girl and you are as well. For instance, two girls could easily be Mario and Luigi and still slay just as hard as if they were to be Peach and Daisy.
Dressing up as either Mario or Luigi could be as simple as a red or green top with overalls over or literally just a pair of jeans and the iconic M and L hats. This is the most crucial part of the costume so if you decide to dress up as them this is what you need. Little attachable mustaches (if you don’t already have one) are a must have to elevate this look as well.
For Peach and Daisy, the costume could be a little more confusing if you’re not buying a real Peach or Daisy costume. First and foremost, the dresses could either be solid colored pink and yellow dresses of any sort but if wanna be a little more on point with the accuracy you could wear a baby pink corset over a hot pink skirt for Peach or a gold-ish yellow corset over an orange skirt for Daisy. Additionally, a gold necklace with a big light blue pendant could be worn for Peach and a gold necklace with a big flower-shaped green pendant could be worn for Daisy with maybe even some matching earrings if you can find some. The main points of these looks are obviously the crowns and the white gloves so you must have those.
Another favorite duo costume of mine is Coraline and Wybie !! I believe this could best be worn as a couple costume but I guess it could be cute for a pair of besties too. This is especially perfect if the “Coraline” for this costume has short or dark-blue hair already- but wigs are always an option if you really want to give Coraline and don’t have this. Coraline’s costume would have to include her yellow rain jacket, matching yellow rain roots, and dragonfly hair clip. Some cutesy additions to this could be her striped red and orange long sleeve underneath the coat with some jeans and maybe even some button eye glasses. For Wybie, his curly hair is also kind of a stable for his character so if you have naturally curly, brown hair you’re already perfect for this and his costume really just consists of a black high visibility jacket (or just a big black raincoat), jorts or jeans, black shoes, and black gloves (preferably skeleton gloves).
This idea is also one of the cutest staple couple costumes in my opinion, Disney Princesses and Princes !!
Again, there are A TON of Disney princesses and princes to choose from for this but most of these halloween costumes that are meant to resemble the signature princess dresses are best achieved with a corset and cute little skirt combo topped with a demure little tiara to really sell the Disney princess vibe. Depending on the corresponding princes, a crown, cape, simple white tee with jeans or black pants could pretty much get you across as any plain old Prince Charming. However, it just depends on the prince you’re deciding to be, like Prince Florian from Snow White fits this exact description but Flynn Rider or Prince Naveen would NOT fit this description at all. Depends on how willing you are to sell the Disney royalty vibe.
As a duo or even group costume, dressing up as different Disney princesses with your girls could be SO CUTE because you know the princes aren’t really the most iconic characters. They’re called “Disney Princess movies” for a reason- like nobody really even knows the names of most of the Princes. Anyways, this group costume could be heavily elevated by matching the princesses with the corresponding people in your group that have the same hair color or just aura as them. What girl wouldn’t want to be a Disney princess? Even if it is just for a day, I feel that this costume would fix every one of my problems and make me feel childlike joy again. Girlhood.
This next duo/couple costume is very casual and doesn’t even necessarily look like a costume to anybody who doesn’t know what it’s from; Jake and Tricky from Subway Surfers !! Jake’s costume really just requires a denim vest over any white or gray hoodie, some baggy jeans, chunky white sneakers and a red and white baseball cap. Tricky’s costume is arguably a lot cuter and consists of a white crop top, baggy jeans with some red boxer shorts sticking out from the top, and of course the red beanie. Glasses and pigtails are a great addition to this look as well as some spray paint bottles as props (or you can get real ones and really play Subway Surfers irl to get a good run in for the night)
Another easy and more casual duo/couple look is Mavis and her stoner boyfriend Johnny from Hotel Transylvania !! Mavis’ look is literally just a tight fitting black dress with arm sleeves that are of the same material as tights, some black and orange striped tights/high socks, and black converse (or orange converse if you have the money for that). Johnny’s costume is really just a yellow and green jersey over an orange long sleeve and khaki shorts. His orange hair is pretty much the highlight of his outfit too so maybe you can wear a wig or if you’re already ginger that’s good.
For my fellow furries out there, a great duo/couple costume for those who have seen the abortion comic is Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde from Zootopia !! Judy’s costume is really just any cop costume with bunny ears. If you don’t already have a cop costume, I think a light blue long sleeve button up with a dark blue vest over will do the job as well. If you’re in SPD, this is actually perfect for you. Nick’s costume consists of a lime green button up shirt with khaki pants and probably some brown shoes topped with fox ears. Voula!
Now, for a duo look that is also super cute and simple yet recognizable and iconic, Dipper and Mabel from Gravity Falls !! (It might be a little morally wrong, but this could also be a super cute couple costume) Mabel’s costume simple consists of a hot pink sweatshirt with her staple rainbow design on top (you could iron or paint this), matching hot pink headband, a purple pencil skirt, some white high socks and black shoes or mary janes. Dipper’s costume is just an orange t-shirt with a dark blue vest over top, gray shorts, high white socks again, and some black tennis shoes. The main point of his look is the pine tree dark blue and white hat he wears that you also achieve by ironing a patch on or just buying the costume version.
One of my other personal favorites from a show that I hold close to my heart, Princess Bubblegum and Marceline OR Jake and Finn!!
Princess Bubblegum’s costume could consist of any hot pink dress, maybe even with a purple belt or piece of ribbon wrapped around the waist and of course the main point; her crown. Marceline’s costume is a little more casual and is literally just a darkish gray tank top with very blue jeans and red shoes/boots. Some little vampire teeth could be a very cute addition to this look as well.
Jake’s look would most accurately be achieved with a onesie or whole costume but you could always just wear all yellow with a Jake beanie or something. Fins’ costume would just be a light blue tee with navy blue shorts or a skirt, black shoes, white socks, and the iconic white beanie.
Group Costumes !! (in slight relation to the Duo Costumes)
HEY AGAIN DIVAS- I really underestimated how long this article would take me to write so for these very extensive group costumes I will simply be listing ideas. I figured you’re all capable enough to look them up yourself and figure out what they require. On the brighter side, there is much more room for personal touches and creativity without descriptions!
South Park (Cartman, Kenny, Kyle, Stan)
Sailor Moon Girls (Sailor Moon, Sailor Mars, Sailor Venus, Sailor Jupiter, Sailor Mercury, etc.)
Tinkerbell Fairies (Tinkerbell, Silvermist, Rosetta, Vidia, Iridessa, Fawn)

Wanna dress up but not look like everyone else? Really wanna express your humor and personality through costume this year?
Personally, one of the funniest and most recognizable ideas to me for this category is Gru and Vector and (a) Minion(s) from Despicable Me !! A bald cap, gray coat, and a black and gray scarf will suffice for Gru while Vector just requires an orange and white jumpsuit and a minion can just be overalls over a yellow or purple shirt with goggles.
Mike Wazowski !! To achieve this look, you can maybe paint yourself green and draw a big eyeball in the middle of your face and buy the Monsters University hat he wears in the first movie or you can just buy a onesie.
The Lorax and The Once-ler from The Lorax !! The Lorax’s look can be achieved by painting yourself orange and buying a yellow mustache and eyebrows or just buying the costume that comes like that. The Once-ler’s look can consist of a vibrant green coat over a white top with black bottoms, a striped black and green tie, and a red rose in the pocket of the coat.
Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy from SpongeBob !! Mermaid Man’s costume can be an orange top with seashells attached at the chest area, a thick yellow belt with an “M” initial as the buckle, green tights with black biker shorts over, green gloves, and pink slippers. As for Barnacle Boy, you would just need a red top with a light turquoise blue neck tie thing, dark blue gloves and high socks, and black biker shorts or leggings.
Willy Wonka and (an) Oompa Loompa(s) !! Willy Wonka’s costume consists of any black bodysuit, dress, or top and bottom combo with a long, dark maroon coat overtop with a top hat and purple gloves. An Oompa Loompa look can be achieved in many different ways but the main components you need to become one are the orange skin, green hair, and brown shirt with white suspenders over top.
I hope all of you divas have THE BEST Halloween night and Halloweekend !! Be ready to turn heads at every Hallo-function you enter with one of these costumes on. Slay the nights away!
P.S: HALLOWEEN IS THIS THURSDAY (unfortunately on a school night)
