After nearly a year and a half of construction, the Kennedy football, track, and grass fields are finally redone, sparking a new era for outdoor Kennedy sports.
Beginning near the end of the 2023 – 2024 school year, the field has been under reconstruction for safety reasons. One of the reasons was that the coarse plastic frequently caused injuries like scars and deep cuts to sports players who used the field.
The general consensus among the PE teachers is that the change is welcome and will definitely promote safety as well as a newer, appealing look to the school that can match the other districts. PE teacher Kristen Goding adores the field by saying, “I love the renovations. I think anything that helps promote beautification of the school is phenomenal. I think it helps the school stay modernized and in line with other districts. As far as how the kids feel, I think they enjoy new things. I think the kids just like it, new things, kids like new things.”
PE teacher Rachel Takimoto also shares similar sentiments, saying “I think it’s great, I think it updates everything out there. Hopefully with the goal of making everything safer. Our fields before, especially the grass fields, had a lot of gopher holes. It’s really nice that it is smooth. I think the kids seem to like it. It’ll be nice when we can actually get out there. I think it’s really gonna help our sports programs. I’ve talked to some softball players and baseball players, and they can’t wait to be on the new fields, and you know, the new dugouts and everything. So I think it’s gonna be a really great improvement for the school and the sports team.”
