The second Club Rush of the school year took place on March 18th, but compared to the first event, the turnout and overall energy were noticeably lower. While the quad was still lined with club booths and decorated posters, there were fewer students walking around and exploring what each club had to offer.
During the first Club Rush, the area was packed with students eager to sign up, talk to club leaders, and discover new activities.
In contrast, this time many booths had long periods with little to no visitors. Several club leaders shared that fewer students stopped by, and fewer actually signed up.
A member of Key and Hmong club told us how she felt during the second club rush.
“There were barely any people attending this club rush. I kinda hoped there would be more students looking at the clubs.” Said Kayley Thao who is known as the Treasurer of Key Club and Secretary of Hmong club.
Kimberly Aguilar also known as “Coco” is part of Glee Club as the co-leader and average member of JDC stated her opinion.
“I wouldn’t say that there was much difference other than less people coming out to see and sign up to be new members of a club.” Said Kimberly.
Students may have already joined clubs earlier in the year during the first club rush and didn’t feel the need to look for more.
Despite the quieter atmosphere, some clubs still managed to connect with interested students and recruit a handful of new members. Club leaders remained positive and continued encouraging participation, hoping that involvement will grow over time.
Yixuan Huang, a member of Coaching in Badminton Club shared his thoughts.
“There’s fewer clubs this time and less crowded compared to the first Club Rush but our club was still able to get some new members who sign up,” said Yixuan.
While this Club Rush may not have matched the excitement of the first, it still served as a reminder of the variety of opportunities available on campus. With new ideas and better outreach, future events may once again draw the larger crowds seen earlier in the year.
