The Kennedy Weight Room has announced it will be starting to be open during lunch, being a good asset for student fitness on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Unfortunately, within the opening week the slots for it filled up completely!
The window opportunity to join lunch weight training is pretty small. There are only 20 total slots, and as of Oct 16 it is full!
The only way to make it in is if someone stops going or quits, and in that case you need to have an orientation with the assets director Mr Jimenez.
Lukas Ochieng, a member of the program, talks about their feelings on its progression so far.
“On the first day, there were only 3 members including me,” Lukas said. “A couple meetings later all 20 spots were filled.”
The people in this program overwhelmingly think that an opportunity like this would greatly benefit most students and help live a healthier, more active lifestyle.
La’Kai Davis, another member, expresses the reason why he wanted to join. “I wanted to join to be able to connect with others,” La’Kai said. “I wanted to lift with others and keep myself busy during lunch.”
Kennedy Physical Education teacher Sean Finegan also expressed highly positive views on the weight room being open to students, especially since there’s now only one lunch.
“So the one positive thing about a single lunch is that we have the opportunity to do weight training during lunch,” Finegan said. “Normally we would have classes during lunch in there and so this year, because it’s one lunch, students will have the opportunity to work out during lunch, stay healthy, stay fit and get connected with others that have similar interests.”
That being said, if you manage to get one of the limited spots you can work out in the weight training room from 12:50 to 1:15 on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
