A broken water heater caused water to leak into classrooms on the east side of the B wing during the beginning of fourth period on Jan 30.
James Hernandez, the plant manager at John F. Kennedy High School, explained that the cause of today’s leak in the B Building was due to the water heater in the boy’s custodial locker. Originally, Hernandez saw the water but was not informed about it right away.
“[I] got on a horn and called the plumber and said, ‘hey, I need you guys’,” Hernandez said. “So now they came and they turned off the water.”

He then added, “I got a hot water heater leaking, and possibly needs to be replaced. Hopefully, they’re gonna let it dry over the weekend to determine if that’s the cause of the water leaking over here [B-Wing].”
When asked how long it will take to get the B-Wing cleaned up, Hernandez explained it might take a day or two for it to dry as it went through the walls.
The water is turned off, but students may see water still leaking.

He was then asked to confirm whether or not the upstairs situation [sinks and urinals flooding on the 2nd floor] is connected. Hernandez explained that the water was only clogged in the 2nd floor of the C-Wing and had no correlation with the leaks at the B-wing.
“After a certain while, the water comes up—has nothing to do with what’s going on with this incident in the B-Wing,” Hernandez said.
