Dr. Siobahn Reilly is attempting a new flexible approach to Back to School Night
The new structure of Back to School Night includes each education department having their own designated area with signs, name tags, teacher contact information, and printouts of their syllabus or QR if preferred. It also is seen as more open house for students from other schools looking at the opportunities Kennedy has for their prospective students.
Compared to everything else being spread out like last time, this year it is in one area instead of spread around campus. This means it’s farewell to the confusing maps!
Back to School Night leaves good news to parents as they no longer have to run around looking for different classes, but now have grouped departments so it leaves convenience instead. It may seem confusing at first, although there is staff around to help with any confusion whatsoever.
Teachers also get a new sign of relief as they now don’t need hours of preparation! English teacher KC McCarthy showed his thoughts on less preparation needed.
“I like it,” McCarthy said. “Normally with the old schedule, all the parents would just follow the schedule of periods 1 through 6. I didn’t mind doing that, but a very small number of people came. It’s better to just talk to the parents about their kid rather than just have a presentation.”
More good news for parents as they can prioritize their time in whatever class they wish. They also get information of who their child’s administration is and who they are as a person, learn about school rules and help the Westeren Association of Schools and Change with a survey.
Mr. Gleason gives the best thanks to those arriving at Back to School Night and encourages parents to not be fearful of being late. As the event is now open house, parents have more freedom and students can be enlightened as well!
